Two Capers named AUS first-team all-stars

SYD­NEY — Two mem­bers of the Cape Bre­ton Uni­ver­sity Capers women’s bas­ket­ball team have been named At­lantic Uni­ver­sity Sport first-team all-stars for the 2009-10 sea­son.

Kelsey Hodg­son and Kari Everett were given the nod, Wed­nes­day.

Hodg­son, the AUS and Cana­dian In­teruni­ver­sity Sport scor­ing leader, av­er­aged 22.1 points per game for the first-place, CIS No. 5 ranked Cape Bre­ton Capers (19-1).

The fifth-year se­nior from Fredericton also led the con­fer­ence in steals (3.0 per game), freethrow per­cent­age (90.4 per cent) and three-point field goals made with 52.

Everett av­er­aged 13.1 points per game for the Capers this sea­son. The na­tive of Stilesville, N.B., was a sec­ond-team se­lec­tion last sea­son.

Join­ing Hodg­son and Everett as first-team all-stars are Alise Brown of the Aca­dia Ax­e­women, Justine Col­ley of the Saint Mary ’s Huskies and Amanda Sharpe of the Uni­ver­sity of New Brunswick Var­sity Reds.

Hodg­son and Brown wrap up their ca­reers as the sev­enth and eighth play­ers in AUS his­tory to score more than 1,500 points in their re­spec­tive ca­reers. Each played in 100 ca­reer games over five years, with Hodg­son scor­ing 1,588 points and Brown fin­ish­ing with 1,522 points.
