Two Capers named AUS first-team all-stars
SYDNEY — Two members of the Cape Breton University Capers women’s basketball team have been named Atlantic University Sport first-team all-stars for the 2009-10 season.
Kelsey Hodgson and Kari Everett were given the nod, Wednesday.
Hodgson, the AUS and Canadian Interuniversity Sport scoring leader, averaged 22.1 points per game for the first-place, CIS No. 5 ranked Cape Breton Capers (19-1).
The fifth-year senior from Fredericton also led the conference in steals (3.0 per game), freethrow percentage (90.4 per cent) and three-point field goals made with 52.
Everett averaged 13.1 points per game for the Capers this season. The native of Stilesville, N.B., was a second-team selection last season.
Joining Hodgson and Everett as first-team all-stars are Alise Brown of the Acadia Axewomen, Justine Colley of the Saint Mary ’s Huskies and Amanda Sharpe of the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds.
Hodgson and Brown wrap up their careers as the seventh and eighth players in AUS history to score more than 1,500 points in their respective careers. Each played in 100 career games over five years, with Hodgson scoring 1,588 points and Brown finishing with 1,522 points.
