Port Hawkesbury, Antigonish team up for major bantam team
The only way regions can function and work today because of costs is to have partnerships and Antigonish is a great town with a great love of hockey and stepped up to the plate and became a great partner.”
MacLean was joined on the committee by Antigonish Minor Hockey Association vice president Mike Stewart, Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director for Port Hawkesbury, Jim Pyke, St. Francis Xavier XMen head coach Brad Peddle, along with Hugh MacDougall, Kevin MacAskill and John James Barter. John Chisholm of Nova Construction is on board as the major sponsor of the team.
MacLean said the X-Men will be lending their expertise to the club.
“They said we want to be involved, we want to put the blue and white sweaters on (the players), we want to be involved in their training, we want to be involved in their education and the all-around team,” he said.
The steering committee will meet Monday night to begin the process of picking the hockey staff. MacLean also noted the team has been asked by Hockey Nova Scotia to host a major tournament next season.
There is also a region for the east side of Cape Breton, but there has been no announcement for a club so far.
