Marine At­lantic me­dia re­la­tions spokesper­son Tara Laing said the com­pany usu­ally brings an ex­tra ves­sel in on April 1, but based on traf­fic pro­jec­tions, is go­ing to bring the com­mer­cial ferry freighter Leif Eric­son in two weeks ear­lier on March 16. That ves­sel will de­part North Syd­ney daily at 5 p.m. and Port aux Basques at 6 a.m., the op­po­site of last year’s sched­ule.

Laing said the ex­ist­ing crews in North Syd­ney will be sup­ple­mented, they’ll load and un­load the two passenger ves­sels and the Leif Eric­son.

The night cross­ing will de­part North Syd­ney at 10:30 p.m., beginning March 16. Marine At­lantic has be­gun to con­tact cus­tomers im­pacted by that change.

On June 17, a fourth ves­sel will be added to the sum­mer sched­ule.

“ The ad­di­tional work­force is sea­sonal and based on the sched­ule; we won’t re­quire that sea­sonal work­force to be­gin un­til June 17.”
