X-Men hold on to edge Capers
ANTIGONISH — The battle between the two superpowers in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball ended in a close finish yet again.
But this time, it was the St. Francis Xavier X-Men who came out on top.
The X-Men held on at the final buzzer in an 81-80 win over the Cape Breton University Capers at the Oland Centre, Friday. Christian Upshaw led his team with a game-high 33 points in the victory.
The last time the two teams met, it was the Capers coming out on top with an 85-82 win.
Charlie Spurr netted 15, while Chad Warren followed with 13. The X-Men outscored the Capers 22-16 in the fourth quarter, rebounding from a 39-36 deficit at halftime.
For the Capers, Jimmy Dorsey scored 18 points, followed by Phil Nkrumah with 17 and Paris Carter with 11.
The Capers dropped to 17-2 with the loss, but have 48 points and remain in first place in the conference standings thanks to four-point wins. The X-Men improved to 18-1, but still sit in second place with 44 points.
CBU wraps up the regular season March 5 when they face the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers in Charlottetown, Friday.
