Cape Breton Post - - SPORTS -

The New Waterford Big Daddy’s Pizza Reds will host the Nova Scotia Midget ‘A’ Baseball Championship, Aug. 28-30 at Gerry Marsh Field.

It’s the third time in five years the team has hosted the provincial championship. The tournament will bring at least four teams to the town. The participating teams will be confirmed following provincial qualification tournaments to be held Aug. 7-9.

The Reds organizing committee launched an online community support petition in April. The petition collected 1,020 signatures in support of the team’s provincial application.

“This will be the third time in five years we have been granted permission to host the tournament. It shows Baseball Nova Scotia has confidence in our provincial committee and the residents of New Waterford,” Reds coach Barry Long said in a release.

“On behalf of the team and the provincial bid committee, we would like to thank the residents of New Waterford who showed their support. Our provincial committee promises to make this tournament memorable for the town.”
