“Go rest high on that mountain, Son your work here is done”.

We regret to announce the passing of lifelong Whitney Pier resident, Charles Lorway Gosse Sr., 57, who passed peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, June 22, 2015, surrounded by loving friends and family.

A writer, entrepreneur, storyteller and amateur mathematician (the CB Post’s Saturday puzzles were never any match), he is perhaps best known for his “Good Dear Good” Gosse’s Sauces, a staple on wings across the Pier.

Those most saddened by his passing include his beloved mother, Enid; brother and successful entrepreneur, William ‘Bill’ and wife, Kathy; brother, fellow storyteller and former MLA, Gordie Jr. and wife, Sue; nieces, Chandell, Meghan and nephews, Gordie and Daniel. As proud as he was of his brothers’ and their families’ accomplishments, his sons, who he lovingly raised with their mother, Cecelia Gosse, were his real joy. Darren, accomplished diesel mechanic, along with partner, Carolyn, and daughter, Lilly Grace, Lorway Jr., lawyer, along with his wife, Christine, and Ryan, talented local guitarist and electrician, will mark their father’s passing with lobster and tarabish, two of Lorway’s favourite pastimes.

He was predeceased by his father, Gordon Sr., who Lorway is eager to be reunited with.

Lorway leaves us with many great memories of fishing, homecooking, off-colour jokes and mostly, time spent with family. “Nothing else matters,” he would often wisely remind us.

Per Lorway’s wishes, cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the mass, reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

In lieu of flowers and donations, listen to your favourite Bob Seger tune and tell your loved ones what they mean to you.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.

Online condolences may be forwarded to the family at www.pierfuneral

We wish we could see the angels’ faces when they hear his silver tongue.
