It is with sad­ness that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of Alice Chris­tine Au­coin, 81, on Sun­day, July 5, 2015, at the New Water­ford Con­sol­i­dated Hos­pi­tal.

Born in New Water­ford, she was a daugh­ter of the late Joseph and Kath­leen (Ed­wards) Aitkens.

Alice was a mem­ber of the for­mer Mount Carmel Parish, cur­rently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. In ear­lier years, she was em­ployed with Delux Clean­ers, Ru­dolph’s Gro­cery and Wool­worths for 27 years. She was a mem­ber of the CWL, St. Vin­cent de Paul food­bank, Com­bined Christ­mas Giv­ing, Kin­netts, and the Hos­pi­tal Aux­il­iary. Alice vol­un­teered her time at the Maple Hill Manor and Midtown Villa. She was also a long­time vol­un­teer and fundraiser for nu­mer­ous char­i­ta­ble or­ga­ni­za­tions. In 1998, CBRM awarded her the Tom Miller Hu­man Rights Award in recog­ni­tion of her ded­i­ca­tion and out­stand­ing ser­vice in the com­mu­nity, par­tic­u­larly for those dis­ad­van­taged by dis­crim­i­na­tion or poverty. Alice en­joyed crafts, es­pe­cially quilting, and was known to make sev­eral items of cloth­ing to keep her loved ones warm for years to come.

Sur­viv­ing are her sons, Kevin ( Janet), Darryl (Michelle); grand­sons, Jack, Marc and Jadon; sis­ters, Teresa (Greg) Black­wood and Emma Syms; many nieces and neph­ews; spe­cial friend, Elaine Par­sons.

Be­sides her par­ents, Alice was pre­de­ceased by broth­ers, Joe, Mickey and Greg; sis­ter, Sarah MacCormick.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A vis­i­ta­tion will be held on Wed­nes­day, July 8th from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home, 380 Smith St., New Water­ford. A fu­neral mass of cel­e­bra­tion will take place Thurs­day, July 9th at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Av­enue, with Fr. Ray Hunt­ley of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Ceme­tery with a lun­cheon to fol­low at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Con­vent Street, New Water­ford.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be made to the So­ci­ety of St. Vin­cent de Paul.
