LAY­TON, Idella ‘Lynette’

Kentville Idella ‘Lynette’ Lay­ton, 83, of Kentville, passed away Mon­day, July 6, 2015, with her fam­ily by her side.

Born in Syd­ney Mines, she was the daugh­ter of the late David H. and Mary B. (Roberts) Gil­lan. In her younger years she was em­ployed by the F. W. Wool­worth Co. She was a for­mer mem­ber of Clyde Av­enue Bap­tist Church, Syd­ney Mines and presently a mem­ber of Kentville United Bap­tist Church, where she was a mem­ber of the Dor­cas So­ci­ety and the ladies aux­il­iary for al­most 30 years. The high­light of the year be­ing the an­nual Christ­mas Tea and Sale. She was also a mem­ber of the Or­der of the Eastern Star, Evan­ge­line Chap­ter 15, Kentville. Lynette was a spe­cial grand­mother to many chil­dren and was well known for her home­made cook­ies.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band, J. Wil­bert Lay­ton; daugh­ters, Lynda (Kim) Thorsen and Carolyn (Mike) McKenna; son, David; grand­chil­dren, Shawn (Car­rie) Thorsen and Jody Thorsen; Cher­lyn, Stu­art and Juanita Lay­ton; Hay­ley, Car­ley and Paul McKenna; great­grand­daugh­ter, Kaisa Thorsen; brother, Stel­burne (Lil­lian); nieces, neph­ews and cousins. Be­sides her par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by son, Thomas.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held from 6-8 p.m. Fri­day, July 10, 2015 in the White Fam­ily Fu­neral Home, Kentville. The fu­neral ser­vice, fol­lowed by a re­cep- tion, will be held at 10 a.m. Satur­day, July 11, 2015 in the Kentville United Bap­tist Church, Rev­erend Devin John­stone of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will take place at 1 p.m. Sun­day, July 12, 2015 in Brook­side Ceme­tery, Syd­ney Mines, Pas­tor Char­maine James of­fi­ci­at­ing.
