SIMP­SON, Wil­liam ‘Bill’

It is with deep sad­ness that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of our hus­band, fa­ther, brother and grand­fa­ther, Wil­liam ‘Bill’ Simp­son on July 7, 2015, at home sur­rounded by his lov­ing fam­ily.

Born in Toronto, he was the only son of the late Wil­liam and Mable (Ec­cles) Simp­son.

Bill re­tired as cap­tain af­ter 30 years of ded­i­cated ser­vice to the North York Fire Depart­ment. He was V.P of the On­tario Pro­fes­sional Fire Fight­ers As­so­ci­a­tion which he took very per­son­ally, tak­ing care of his 3,000 broth­ers and sis­ters and their fam­i­lies. Re­tir­ing in 2001 to his sec­ond home, Cape Bre­ton Is­land, he im­me­di­ately joined the N.V.V.F.D. He also was ac­tive as the train­ing of­fi­cer for level one. Al­ways con­cerned with the safety of oth­ers he be­came a cross­ing guard for the CBRM and to no sur­prise he be­came in­volved in their union as pres­i­dent and later as V.P.

He is sur­vived by his wife, Donna; chil­dren, Ron & Dawn; the joy of his life grand­son, Joshua; lov­ing sis­ter, San­dra (Don­ald) Allan, Ont.; sis­ter & brother-in-law, Linda (Frank) Helle; spe­cial friend, Ma­rina Clark. He is also sur­vived by his nieces, Cathy Nor­ris, Michelle Helle, Tanya ( John) Martell; nephew, David (Betty) Allan, Ont., and sev­eral great- and great-great nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his son, Michael.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. Vis­i­ta­tion will be held at 10 a.m. on Satur­day, July 11th, fol­lowed by a chapel ser­vice at 11 a.m. in the McLel­lan Broth­ers Chapel with Rev. Ver­non Reid of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low in St. Joseph’s Ceme­tery, New Vic­to­ria, and a re­cep­tion will be held at the parish hall, Con­vent Street. All are welcome.
