Trial date set on weapons of­fences

SYD­NEY — A Point Aconi man was as­signed a Supreme Court trial date Wed­nes­day on charges that in­clude weapons of­fences. John Wil­liam MacNeil, 46, is charged with two counts of care­less use of a firearm, as well as sin­gle counts of point­ing a firearm, pos­ses­sion of a weapon dan­ger­ous to public peace, pos­ses­sion of a weapon with­out a li­cence, dis­charg­ing a firearm with in­tent, ut­ter­ing a threat, as­sault with a weapon, and mis­chief. He is charged in con­nec­tion with shoot­ing at a 24-year- old male neigh­bour af­ter an al­ter­ca­tion on Aug. 14, 2014 dur­ing which he is al­leged to have fired at least three shots from a .22- cal­i­bre ri­fle into the pas­sen­ger door of a ve­hi­cle driven by the com­plainant. MacNeil is now sched­uled to stand trial, be­fore a judge and jury, from Oct. 11-24, 2016. MacNeil con­tin­ues his re­lease on con­di­tions.
