Trial date set on weapons offences
SYDNEY — A Point Aconi man was assigned a Supreme Court trial date Wednesday on charges that include weapons offences. John William MacNeil, 46, is charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm, as well as single counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, possession of a weapon without a licence, discharging a firearm with intent, uttering a threat, assault with a weapon, and mischief. He is charged in connection with shooting at a 24-year- old male neighbour after an altercation on Aug. 14, 2014 during which he is alleged to have fired at least three shots from a .22- calibre rifle into the passenger door of a vehicle driven by the complainant. MacNeil is now scheduled to stand trial, before a judge and jury, from Oct. 11-24, 2016. MacNeil continues his release on conditions.
