Port opportunities reason for optimism

Cape Breton Post - - EDITORIAL -

I was very pleased to see in the Cape Breton Post that Barry Sheehy and partner Albert Barbusci are on their way to China (‘ Talking up Sydney’s port advantage in China’, July 8).

After being in the ports of Hong Kong and Beijing myself, I was totally amazed at the number of containers and the size of the docks these people have for export. If we could just get one row of what is on their dock everyone in Cape Breton would have to go to work.

Sheehy indicated that this is going to take up to five years to happen.

Therefore, I feel the federal government and Transport Minister Lisa Raitt ( formerly of Whitney Pier) need to start work today in preparing a four-lane highway to the Canso Causeway as Sydney is able to take the new jumbo container ships and Montreal is not.

Rail and highway are going to be a main selling feature to the Chinese.

Bravo to Sheehy and company for your hard work and persistence. Please do not get discouraged with the negativity. Your company is doing a good job
