Accused remanded pending next court appearance
SYDNEY - A Sydney man charged with intimidating Crown witnesses has consented to remain in jail pending his next court appearance in August. Joseph Frederick Evong, 33, was arrested in Prince George, B.C., and returned to Cape Breton to face the charge. He is alleged to have intimidated witnesses associated with an assault last December in Coxheath during which three men were injured after they were attacked by another man wielding a shovel and a hammer. The man accused of committing the assaults has been assigned a Supreme Court trial date on the charges. Evong is now scheduled back in court Aug. 4.
