Ac­cused re­manded pend­ing next court ap­pear­ance

SYD­NEY - A Syd­ney man charged with in­tim­i­dat­ing Crown wit­nesses has con­sented to re­main in jail pend­ing his next court ap­pear­ance in Au­gust. Joseph Fred­er­ick Evong, 33, was ar­rested in Prince Ge­orge, B.C., and re­turned to Cape Bre­ton to face the charge. He is al­leged to have in­tim­i­dated wit­nesses as­so­ci­ated with an as­sault last De­cem­ber in Cox­heath dur­ing which three men were in­jured af­ter they were at­tacked by another man wield­ing a shovel and a ham­mer. The man ac­cused of com­mit­ting the as­saults has been as­signed a Supreme Court trial date on the charges. Evong is now sched­uled back in court Aug. 4.
