HALIFAX — A Sydney chef will put his best dish forward at province-wide competition that celebrates culinary excellence. Ardon Mofford, chef and owner of Governors Pub and Eatery, is one of eight competing chefs from across Nova Scotia in the 2015 Gold Medal Plates that will take place in Halifax in late Oc- tober. Among Mofford’s competitors are Thomas Carey, Pictou Lodge Beach Resort; David Haynes, the Press Gang Restaurant and Oyster Bar in Halifax; and Martin Ruiz Salvador, Fleur de Sel in Lunenburg. The winner of the Halifax competition will move on to the Canadian Culinary Championships in February in Kelowna, B.C. The chefs will create dishes that will be presented with a Canadian wine, beer or spirit of their choice. The event also includes a silent auction of rare wines and travel experiences. The culinary event, which will feature a performance from Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, also serves as a fundraiser for the Canadian Olympic Foundation.
