Juneb­ugs Baby in sea­son’s best 1:57.1 at North­side Downs

Juneb­ugs Baby is now two for three in 2015 af­ter pac­ing the fastest mile of the sea­son in 1:57.1 to high­light a 12-dash card of har­ness rac­ing Satur­day af­ter­noon at North­side Downs.

Fraser Turnbull, who co-owns with John Turnbull Jr., ral­lied the six-year-old stal­lion from fourth at the quar­ter, clear­ing leader Put­nams Power and Bob MacCormick be­fore the three quar­ters and draw­ing away in the stretch to win by three lengths. Put­nams Power stayed for sec­ond, with Sweet Sweet Rosco another four lengths back in third. It was one of two driv­ing vic­to­ries on the day for Turnbull, who also won with Jar­rcoh in a new mark of 2:02.2.

Ger­ard Kennedy, with a driv­ing triple, and Jason MacNeil, with a driv­ing dou­ble, were the other top driv­ers on the Satur­day af­ter­noon card. Kennedy’s wins came with Mi­rages Magic in 2:01 for owner Ir­win Claener, Fleet­wood Cam in 1:59.4 for owner An­gus MacEach­ern, and Pri­vate Prac­tice in 2:01.2 for owner Heather Hawkins.

MacNeil opened the card by guid­ing Eastview Dex­ter to a 2:05.2 vic­tory for owner Joe Tracey. The three-year-old won for the first time in 2015 by a quar­ter-length over Wig­gle­andgig­gle and Anielori. MacNeil capped the driv­ing dou­ble by guid­ing Panda Bear to a wire to wire win in 2:01.4, hold­ing off a chal­lenge from Broad­way Bill, with Handee Man third, another three lengths back of the win­ner. The 10-year-old geld­ing is owned by Brian MacNeil.

Other win­ners on the card in­cluded Ker­rona for Martin Bates in 2:04.1, An­dro Peanut for John Wil­lie Beaton in 2:03, Delta Force for Justin MacKin­non in 2:01.3, The­colour Of Jewel for Colin Kelly for 2:00.2, and Sur­re­al­ist for Randy Getto in 2:00.4.

Rac­ing ac­tion re­turns to North­side Downs on Satur­day af­ter­noon at 1 pm.
