It is with heavy hearts that we an­nounce the sud­den pass­ing of our Mother Joan Ann MacLeod on Satur­day, July 11, 2015, at An Cala pal­lia­tive care, Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal.

She was the daugh­ter of the late Moe and Alice Sac­cary. Re­united with the love of her life, Laugh­lin ‘Lockie’.

Ma en­joyed sewing, knit­ting, mak­ing her fa­mous quilts and bak­ing. When one came to visit there was al­ways a baked treat to take with you. She en­joyed spend­ing time with her best friends Dol­lena and Peggy. She was once em­ployed at Seav­iew Manor Home for Spe­cial Care.

Sur­vived by her chil­dren, Leo (Wendy), Ger­ard (Kelli), Ann Marie (Bill Murchi­son) with whom she resided and Mar­garet (Kyle); sis­ters, Dol­lena (Kevin Mackie), An­nette and Mary Cather­ine; broth­ers, Ce­cil (Rita), Michael, Stan­ley and Kevin (Lorraine). Also, grand­chil­dren, Leigh Ann (Matthew Boutilier), Jes­sica, BJ (Bernard), Joseph, and step-grand­chil­dren, Wendy, Shauna, April, Billy, Chris, Ryan, Jor­dan, Corey, Krista, Ch­eryl, and Chelsie; sis­ters-in-law, Peggy Gouthro and JoAnne MacLeod; brother-in-law, John Mac­Don­ald; her com­pan­ion, Lucky; and many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides her hus­band and par­ents, she was pre­de­ceased by sis­ters-in-law, Mar­ion Sac­cary and Carmela Mac­Don­ald; broth­ersin-law, Rod­die, Patty and Frank.

Fam­ily flow­ers only. In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions can be made to the An Cala pal­lia­tive-care unit.

Spe­cial thanks to the doc­tors and nurses at Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal ER, Unit 4B, ICU and An Cala for the care and com­pas­sion shown to our mother and fam­ily.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be on Tues­day, July 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Glace Bay Fu­neral Home, 775 Main St. A fu­neral mass will be cel­e­brated on Wed­nes­day, July 15 at 11a.m. in Holy Cross Church. The Rev. Nor­man MacPhee will of­fi­ci­ate. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flow­ers do­na­tions may be made to pal­lia­tive care.
