Tropical storm Claudette may impact Cape Breton

Cape Breton Post - - HOT ONLINE - SYDNEY

Tropical storm Claudette is expected to be a weak post-tropical system when it makes its way to Cape Breton early Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Canadian Hurricane Centre, the tropical storm formed suddenly southwest of Nova Scotia from a sub-tropical disturbance.

Forecasters believe it will move northeast to lie near Sable Island by tonight and may brush Cape Breton or move onshore early Wednesday as a weak posttropical system. Then it is ex- pected to move into southwestern Newfoundland and dissipate.

No major wind impacts are expected from the system as the gale force winds are expected to remain offshore. Periods of rain are expected to start late today over parts of Cape Breton but forecasters say it is too early to estimate exact amounts. They noted that another low approaching in the wake of Claudette may actually give higher amounts.
