The third instalment of the Makin’ Waves concert series will take to the stage Thursday at Wentworth Park.

Renowned Sydney jazz musician Joe Waye and his trio along with special guest Charlotte MacDonald will join opening act and rising star Breagh Mackinnon, also of Sydney.

Waye has studied with Toronto jazz guitarist Art DeVilliers and shared the stage with Juno award winning artists like Cape Breton’s own Kirk MacDonald and Mike Murley. His last release “Back to Normal” was issued in 2012.

Charlotte MacDonald is an emerging local jazz singer and was the winner of the 2013 Next Big Thing contest.

Mackinnon is a celebrated artist with a unique voice and background as a jazz musician. An ECMA nominee in 2012 for her debut album “Where the Days Went,” Mackinnon has since been touring Canada both as a solo performer and alongside Dylan Guthro and Carleton Stone as Port Cities.

The Cape Breton Music Industry Cooperative and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality recreation department are co-sponsors for the event and with more than 2,000 people attending the first two shows, both groups couldn’t be happier with attendance.

The concert will run from 6-8 p.m. Thursday and admission is free.
