It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Harrietha, 76, on Sunday, July 12, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on July 12, 1939, he was the son of the late Dan Joe and Mary (Dandy) Harrietha.
Michael worked as a coal miner for 34 years. Michaels’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and especially his cat Shadow. Michael is survived by his loving wife Ann (Buffett) of 55 years; daughters, Collen (Gary) Hoeg, Sherry Harrietha (Gordon) and son Michael; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Patricia LeBlanc.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Rose, Cecelia, Annie, Effie Bell, Josephine and Jacquline, brothers, Doug, Vincent, Andrew and Alex.
The family wish to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff of 4 West Northside General and Dr. Elizabeth MacCormick for the care they provided to Michael.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving friends at a reception in Michael’s honour at the Royal Canadian Legion, Main Street, Sydney Mines, Wednesday, July 15, 2-4 p.m.
