Same-sex wedding a special occasion

Cape Breton Post - - EDITORIAL -

Recently, I attended the wedding of a friend at the United Protestant Church in Sydney River.

It was a same- sex wedding. I have never seen such joy on the faces of two people about to be married as they walked up the aisle, each escorted by his mother and grandmother.

When the couple was pronounced married by the minister, the congregation – with tears and broad smiles – applauded for well over a minute.

I was proud to be part of a ceremony that signals a change in society's attitude.

I am glad I live in a country, and on this island, where such things can happen, and I am proud to see the United Church leading the way in its spirit of love and acceptance.

It was a truly inspirational day. Sandy Anthony Louisbourg
