Batter Aaron Young of the Sydney Mines Ramblers jumps out of the way of an inside pitch that was handled by Glace Bay McDonald’s Colonels catcher Jack Cashen during action at the Nova Scotia Major Little League championships at the Joe Scott Field in Sydney Mines. After three consecutive shutouts, Glace Bay finally conceded some runs, but won the game 14-4 to finish undefeated in the double round robin against the Ramblers and the Sydney Sooners. Cyril MacQueen and Liam Burke hit home runs for the Colonels, while the Ramblers top hitters were Bryden Gardiner with a double and single and Andrew Marsh with a triple. With the win, the Colonels repeat as provincial champions and will host the New Brunswick champs next week at the Cameron Bowl in Glace Bay. The winner will advance to the Canadian championships in Ottawa in August. See page B3 for more information.
