Lo­cal bas­ket­ball play­ers to com­pete at na­tional cham­pi­onships

Two Cape Bre­ton bas­ket­ball play­ers are off to Al­berta as part of their re­spec­tive Nova Sco­tia teams that will com­pet­ing at the Cana­dian cham­pi­onships. Fif­teen-year-old Nalini Ma­haraj, of Al­bert Bridge, and Glace Bay High School’s Macken­zee Ryan are part of Bas­ket­ball Nova Sco­tia’s un­der-15 and un­der-17 teams re­spec­tively. Ma­haraj, who grad­u­ated from Mal­colm Mun­roe Ju­nior High School last month, will at­tend Riverview Ru­ral High School in Spetem­ber, while Ryan will be a Grade 11 stu­dent at GBHS. With both pro­vin­cial squads based in Hal­i­fax, the girls have been spend­ing a lot of time on the road. The na­tional tour­na­ment runs from July 23-30 in Ed­mon­ton.
