River Ryan

It is with sad­ness that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of Ge­orge Lees, 77, of River Ryan on Wed­nes­day, July 15, 201, at New Water­ford Con­sol­i­dated Hos­pi­tal.

Born in New Water­ford, he was a son of the late Richard ‘Dick’ and Sadie (Boutilier) Lees.

Ge­orge worked in a num­ber of mines in the area and the Round House in Glace Bay. He re­tired from Syd­ney Rail­road.

In ear­lier years, he was an avid fish­er­man and hunter. He fre­quented Tims in Glace Bay and Do­min­ion where he made many friends. One of his favourite pas­times was driv­ing through the streets of the lo­cal ar­eas. He also loved to gar­den and shared his veg­eta­bles with neigh­bours and friends.

Sur­viv­ing are his wife of 49 years, Edith (Cameron) Lees; daugh­ter, Jan­ice De­vavarapu, Ed­mon­ton; son, Jason Lees, at home; his pride and joy, grand­daugh­ter, Nisha De­vavarapu.

Be­sides his par­ents, Ge­orge was pre­de­ceased by a sis­ter, Leona Green­ing.

There will be no vis­i­ta­tion. Cre­ma­tion has taken place. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held Mon­day, July 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St., New Water­ford, with Rev. Ver­non Reid of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Ceme­tery, River Ryan, with a lun­cheon to fol­low at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Con­vent Street, New Water­ford. Do­na­tions in his mem­ory may be made to a char­ity of one’s choice.
