Campbell showing consistency at Canadian tour event
Peter Campbell is playing some good golf, but the problem is that so are a bunch of other guys at this week’s PGA Tour Canada event in Thunder Bay. The 32year-old touring pro from Baddeck shot a three-under par 69 on Friday to follow an opening round 68 and, with a score of seven-under par, sits in a tie for 24th place at the Staal Foundation Open at the Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay, Ont. Ontario’s Michael Gligic leads the tournament at 13-under par with a two total of 131 (64-67). The top sixty and ties made the cut of three-under par. The tournament, which has ties to northern Ontario’s NHL-playing Staal brothers, also includes former NHLers Grant Fuhr and Marc Savard. Fuhr finished with the highest score of those who played 36 holes after shooting 83 and 84. Savard, long known as one of hockey’s best golfers, shot an opening round 75, but withdrew after 13 holes on Friday. He was 16-over par for the round that included an 11 on a par five. The tournament continues today and wraps up on Sunday.
