BAKER, Bernie Melvin


New Water­ford

It is with heavy hearts that we an­nounce the pass­ing of our fa­ther, brother, grand­fa­ther and great­grand­fa­ther, Bernie Melvin Baker, on July 16, 2015, at the New Water­ford Con­sol­i­dated Hos­pi­tal sur­rounded by his lov­ing fam­ily.

Born in New Water­ford, he was the son of the late Arthur and Vi­ola (Spanks) Baker.

Bernie was a coal miner for sev­eral years. He had a love for his grand­chil­dren that was un­matched and he en­joyed spend­ing time with them. He en­joyed the sim­pler things in life and loved cars, scratch­ing tick­ets and do­ing crossword puzzles.

Bernie is sur­vived by his four daugh­ters, Bar­bara, Ber­na­dine (Derek), Lilly ( Jack), Vi­o­let; sons, Bernard (Tracy), Melvin (Wanda), sis­ter Lill (Howard) Harte and brother Bill Baker. He is also sur­vived by his nine grand­chil­dren, Melissa, Chad, Shera, Tyler, Nolan, Madi­son, Justin, Tyler, Kyle and two great­grand­chil­dren Carter and Alyson.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by his lov­ing wife Sarah, broth­ers, Fred and Les and sis­ter Muriel Kear­ney.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held on Sun­day, July 19, 2015 from 2-4 to 7-9 p.m. in the fu­neral home. A fu­neral mass to celebrate Bernie’s life will take place on Mon­day, July 19 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Av­enue with Fr. Ray Hunt­ley of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be held in St. Michael’s Ceme­tery.
