LEES, George Thomas ‘Bubber’
It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of George Lees, 77, of River Ryan on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Richard ‘Dick’ and Sadie (Boutilier) Lees.
George worked in a number of mines in the area and the Round House in Glace Bay. He retired from Sydney Railroad.
In earlier years, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He frequented Tims in Glace Bay and Dominion where he made many friends. One of his favourite pastimes was driving through the streets of the local areas. He also loved to garden and shared his vegetables with neighbours and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Edith (Cameron) Lees; daughter, Janice Devavarapu, Edmonton; son, Jason Lees, at home; his pride and joy, granddaughter, Nisha Devavarapu.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a sister, Leona Greening.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 20, 2015, at 11 a.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
