El­iz­a­beth Vir­ginia ‘ Virgy’ Dowl­ing (nee Mor­ri­son) passed away peace­fully on Jan. 8, 2015, at the Chi­nook Care Cen­tre in Cal­gary, Alta., at the age of 93 years.

Virgy was born in Syd­ney Oct. 13, 1921, she was the daugh­ter of the late Daniel and Kath­leen (MacKin­non) Mor­ri­son.

Virgy is sur­vived by her son Dennis Dowl­ing (Deb­bie McCaf­frey) of Cal­gary Alta.; her sis­ter Sr. Teresa Mor­ri­son CND of Baddeck, N.S. and her brother David Mor­ri­son (Geneva) of Hamil­ton, Ont. She is also sur­vived by her grand­chil­dren, Eliz- abeth Dowl­ing (Ed­ward Bays), great-grand­daugh­ters, Anna and Bria of Kim­ber­ley, B.C.; Katie Dowl­ing (Robert Hal­l­i­day) and great-grand­son Tyson of An­napo­lis Val­ley, N.S.; Amy Dowl­ing of Syd­ney N.S.; De­siree (Don) Bruno, great-grand­chil­dren Nya and Do­minic of Cal­gary, Alta., and Tyrel Roe of High Prairie, Alta.; her daugh­ter by choice Sadie (Sally) Gil­lis of Syd­ney, N.S., her sis­ter-in-law Theresa (Ralph) Mor­ri­son of Dart­mouth, N.S. and other nu­mer­ous rel­a­tives.

She was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, Dennis Vin­cent Dowl­ing (1951), son Brian A. Dowl­ing, sis­ters, Sr. Mary C. Mor­ri­son CND and Sr. Kath­leen Mor­ri­son (Mar­tyrs), her broth­ers, Pa­trick (Lindy), Ram­say, Ralph and John and sis­ters-in-law, Tessie (Ram­sey) Mor­ri­son, Bar­bara (Lindy) Mor­ri­son, and Mar­i­lyn ( John) Mor­ri­son.

Af­ter grad­u­a­tion from Mount St. Bernard Col­lege in Antigo­nish she be­gan work­ing for Trans Canada Air­lines (now known as Air Canada) un­til her re­tire­ment in 1985.

Virgy en­joyed spend­ing time with her fam­ily and es­pe­cially her grand­chil­dren. She trav­elled all over the world through­out her ca­reer in the air­line in­dus­try and even more so in her re­tire­ment years.

The fam­ily wishes to ex­tend heart­felt thanks to her spe­cial care­giver Chona Galivo of Sig­na­ture Care and the staff at Chi­nook Care Cen­tre for the ex­cel­lent care she re­ceived while she resided there. We would also like to thank Fa­ther Bob of St. Mary’s Cathe­dral, Cal­gary, Alta., who ad­min­is­tered the sacra­ment for the sick.

In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions to the Cana­dian Di­a­betes As­so­ci­a­tion would be ap­pre­ci­ated.

A cel­e­bra­tion of her life will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Satur­day, July 25, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Lamey of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment to take place at St. Theresa’s Ceme­tery, Syd­ney.
