• The Barra For­est Trail Group, made up of peo­ple from Washabuck and sur­round­ing com­mu­ni­ties, is presently work­ing on trail de­vel­op­ment com­ple­men­tary to the Trans-Canada Trail.

• The com­mu­nity is presently ex­plor­ing the pos­si­bil­ity of de­vel­op­ing an ac­cess point as part of the Wa­ter Route por­tion of the Trans-Canada Trail.

• “The Stòras na h-Òi­gridh ( Trea­sures of Youth) Fund, a schol­ar­ship ad­min­is­tered by The Nova Sco­tia High­land Vil­lage So­ci­ety, was inspired by the late Michael An­thony Ma­cLean of Washabuck. It is avail­able to Nova Sco­tia youth who want to ad­vance their skills in one or more of the fol­low­ing Gaelic tra­di­tions: fid­dle, pipes, pi­ano, lan­guage, sto­ry­telling, song and dance.

• Since 1999, daily, from July into Septem­ber, Washabucker Nancy Ma­cLean has suc­cess­fully run the “Baddeck Gath­er­ing Ceilidhs, ex­pos­ing peo­ple from all over the world to Celtic mu­sic."
