MILLER, Ronald Harry
We regret to announce the passing of the late Ronald Harry Miller, 79, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Waterford Heights Nursing Home, New Waterford, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toronto on Jan. 5, 1936, he was the son of the late, Newton and Eva (York) Miller.
Ron was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Sydney Mines.
Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sydney Mines, and Club 8 Skylark Radio Club of Cape Breton. Ron worked for many years with the Canadian Coast Guard, sailing on the Louis S St-Laurent. On Aug. 10, 1971, the Louis S St-Laurent crossed the Arctic Circle and on Aug. 22, 1971, they steamed northward the new furthest north for any ship under steam or sail, earning herself and her crew an honoured place in the maritime history of Canada. Ron also loved spending many hours in his beautiful gardens. At his time of death Ron was in his 40th year of sobriety, his family was very proud of this accomplishment.
Ron is survived by daughter, Deborah ( John Woody) Woodfine; sons, Raymond (Leah), Bradley (Erika); grandchildren, Catherine, Robert, Mikaela, Jenna, Van and Matt; brother, Robert ( Joan); sister-inlaw, Joan (Lew) Fiander; brother-in-law, Rene (Anne) Patry. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Ron was predeceased by his loving wife, Margaret Marie Patry, along with many sisters and brothers. The family would like to thank Waterford Heights Nursing Home and Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton
In keeping with Ron’s wishes cremation as taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place at a later date.
