We re­gret to an­nounce the pass­ing of the late Ron­ald Harry Miller, 79, on Tues­day, July 21, 2015, at Water­ford Heights Nurs­ing Home, New Water­ford, sur­rounded by his lov­ing fam­ily.

Born in Toronto on Jan. 5, 1936, he was the son of the late, New­ton and Eva (York) Miller.

Ron was a mem­ber of Im­mac­u­late Conception Church, Syd­ney Mines.

Ron was a mem­ber of the Knights of Colum­bus, Syd­ney Mines, and Club 8 Sky­lark Ra­dio Club of Cape Bre­ton. Ron worked for many years with the Cana­dian Coast Guard, sail­ing on the Louis S St-Lau­rent. On Aug. 10, 1971, the Louis S St-Lau­rent crossed the Arc­tic Cir­cle and on Aug. 22, 1971, they steamed north­ward the new fur­thest north for any ship un­der steam or sail, earn­ing her­self and her crew an hon­oured place in the mar­itime history of Canada. Ron also loved spend­ing many hours in his beau­ti­ful gar­dens. At his time of death Ron was in his 40th year of so­bri­ety, his fam­ily was very proud of this ac­com­plish­ment.

Ron is sur­vived by daugh­ter, Deb­o­rah ( John Woody) Woodfine; sons, Ray­mond (Leah), Bradley (Erika); grand­chil­dren, Cather­ine, Robert, Mikaela, Jenna, Van and Matt; brother, Robert ( Joan); sis­ter-in­law, Joan (Lew) Fian­der; brother-in-law, Rene (Anne) Pa­try. Along with many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents, Ron was pre­de­ceased by his lov­ing wife, Mar­garet Marie Pa­try, along with many sis­ters and broth­ers. The fam­ily would like to thank Water­ford Heights Nurs­ing Home and Pal­lia­tive Care So­ci­ety of Cape Bre­ton

In keep­ing with Ron’s wishes cre­ma­tion as taken place un­der the care and di­rec­tion of J.M. Jobes Fu­neral Home. A grave­side ser­vice will take place at a later date.
