We, the fam­ily are sad­dened to an­nounce the death of our dear fa­ther, grand­fa­ther, great-grand­fa­ther and brother, Robert Smith, at the Cornwall Care for Hos­pice af­ter a lengthy bat­tle with can­cer.

Born July 30, 1927, in Port Morien, Robert was the old­est son of the late Stan­ley and Chris­tine (MacPher­son) Smith.

He is sur­vived by daugh­ter Phyl­lis (Michael) Van de Camp; grand­chil­dren, Jen­nifer ( Josh), Jeffrey ( Jen); and great-grand­daugh­ter Shelby, Long Sault, Ont.; and daugh­ter Cathy (Marc) Vallee, Maxville, Ont.

Also sur­viv­ing are brother Gor­don (Lois) Smith, Syd­ney; sis­ters, El­iz­a­beth ( late Ken­neth) An­drews, Joyce (late Joe) Peach, both of Port Morien, He­len (Ted) Peach, Kingston, N.S.; sis­ter-in­law, Shirley ( late Ivan) Smith; many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents, he was pre­de­ceased by wife Doris (Blan­chard, 2006), son Michael (1992), sis­ter and brother-in-law Mary and Les­lie Peach, brother and sis­ter-in-law Ewen and Jean Smith, and brother Ivan.

Robert was a mem­ber of the armed servies, a Korean War vet­eran serv­ing in Korea for 18 months (MIA, POW). Fol­low­ing dis­cha­gre from the ser­vices, Robert worked on the St. Lawrence Se­away con­struc­tion and then for Canada Post in Cornwall un­til his re­tire­ment.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place with vis­i­ta­tion on Fri­day, July 24, at Wil­son Fu­neral Home, Cornwall. Pri­vate com­mit­tal on Satur­day at Notre Dame Ceme­tery, Cornwall.
