Cape Breton Post - - CAPE BRETON - SYDNEY

A Glace Bay man has been assigned a preliminary hearing date on multiple offences.

Norman Wayne Ferguson, 18, is charged with robbery with violence, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, forcible entry, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of breaching court orders.

The charges stem from an alleged incident March 22 at a Dolphin Crescent home during which a 28-year-old man was stabbed several times. The victim was treated in hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Ferguson is also facing unrelated offences of theft (a laptop) and breaching a court order that allegedly occurred in Glace Bay on Nov. 2, 2014.

Ferguson has elected to be tried by Supreme Court judge alone and a preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 26. A judge presiding over such a hearing will determine if there’s enough evidence to send the case to trial.
