Song­writ­ers cir­cle to bring CCMA ex­cite­ment


Cana­dian coun­try mu­sic will be on full dis­play in Hal­i­fax in Septem­ber when the Cana­dian Coun­try Mu­sic Awards takes over a num­ber of stages and venues in and around the pro­vin­cial cap­i­tal.

To en­sure all Nova Sco­tians get a taste of what’s in store for their province, or­ga­niz­ers are tak­ing a se­ries of coun­try mu­sic shows on the road.

The Song­writer Se­ries: The Road to Hal­i­fax has al­ready made stops in Yar­mouth and Truro and will con­clude in Mem­ber­tou on Tues­day when mu­si­cians Carolyn Dawn John­son and Bruce Guthro take the stage.

“It was just our op­por­tu­nity to bring a lit­tle bit of coun­try mu­sic week to those other com­mu­ni­ties around the province, en­cour­age peo­ple to come to Hal­i­fax for this very unique event,” said Stacey Jones-Oxner, a Cape Bre­ton na­tive and chair of Cana­dian Coun­try Mu­sic Week 2015.

Tues­day’s per­for­mance will also fea­ture ris­ing stars Jor­dan Musyc­syn from Cape Bre­ton and the Ryan Sis­ters from Hal­i­fax.

Jones-Oxner said the song­writ­ers cir­cle joins the At­lantic Dis­cov­ery Pro­gram as meth­ods to give emerg­ing artists in these parts a chance to gain ex­po­sure dur­ing the weeks and months lead­ing up to CCMA week in Hal­i­fax.

Tick­ets for Tues­day’s show are $38, in­clud­ing all taxes and fees, and are now on sale online at www.mem­ and at the Mem­ber­tou Trade and Con­ven­tion Cen­tre box of­fice.

They can also be pur­chased at the door the night of the show.
