Syd­ney ac­cused to un­dergo as­sess­ment

SYD­NEY — A 20-year-old Syd­ney man is to un­dergo a 30day psy­chi­atric eval­u­a­tion prior to en­ter­ing pleas on a host of sex of­fences. Harry James Warner of Char­lotte Street is charged with four counts of as­sault, three counts of breach­ing court or­ders, two counts of ab­duc­tion of a per­son un­der the age of 16, and sin­gle counts of sex­ual as­sault, forcible con­fine­ment and sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence. The of­fences al­legedly oc­curred be­tween April and July in Syd­ney. Dur­ing a pro­vin­cial court ap­pear­ance Fri­day, Warner’s de­fence lawyer re­quested the court grant an ap­pli­ca­tion for an as­sess­ment to de­ter­mine whether the ac­cused is crim­i­nally re­spon­si­ble for his ac­tions. The as­sess­ment will be con­ducted at the East Coast Foren­sic Cen­tre in Dart­mouth. Warner, who was pre­vi­ously de­nied bail, is now sched­uled back in pro­vin­cial court Aug. 21.
