Grants for groups

The Bras d'Or Se­niors and Pen­sion­ers Club is among a num­ber of com­mu­nity groups that will re­ceive pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment grants in the com­ing weeks.

The grant money will come from Nova Sco­tia Com­mu­ni­ties, Cul­ture and Her­itage, ac­cord­ing to Vic­to­ria-the Lakes MLA Pam Eyk­ing.

The Bras d'Or club will re­ceive $15,650 to as­sist with on­go­ing ren­o­va­tions to its build­ing. Fu­ture work will in­clude im­prove- ments to the wash­rooms, a new floor and up­grades to the kitchen. The weekly card games will re­sume once the ren­o­va­tions are com­plete.

Ski Cape Smokey will re­ceive $8,000 in sup­port of cul­tural events.

The Baddeck Public Li­brary So­ci­ety will re­ceive a $5,862 to as­sist with the re­place­ment of the roof on Saint Peter's and Saint John's Angli­can Church, Shore Road, Baddeck, a des­ig­nated her­itage prop­erty, which will be used as a com­mu­nity venue.
