Cubs hope to im­prove record at cham­pi­onship

The Cape Bre­ton Cubs re­turn to ac­tion to­day, hop­ing to pick up where they left off on Thurs­day at the 2015 Cana­dian Se­nior Lit­tle League Cham­pi­onship in Co­quit­lam, B.C. The Cubs en­joyed a rest on Fri­day af­ter de­feat­ing the host Co­quit­lam team 8-5 in a game played late the pre­vi­ous evening. Af­ter los­ing their first two games in the seven-team round robin por­tion of the na­tional cham­pi­onship, the Cubs (1-2) came out a bit flat and sur­ren­dered four runs in the first in­ning. How­ever, the At­lantic Re­gion rep­re­sen­ta­tives came back with a six-run sec­ond in­ning and never looked back as start­ing pitcher Dy­lan Mackin­non set­tled down and lim­ited Co­quit­lam to just one more run be­fore he was re­lieved in the sixth. Mackin­non was cred­ited with the win, while Matthew Camp­bell recorded the save. Camp­bell, Trent Rear­don and Zach Suther­land all had two hits apiece for the Cubs, while Daw­son Martin had two RBI. The Cubs play East Ne­pean (Ont.) to­day; Leth­bridge on Sun­day; and Mon­tréal on Mon­day. The semi­fi­nal and cham­pi­onship matches are slated for Tues­day and Wed­nes­day re­spec­tively.
