Four local triathletes to compete in major competition
Four Sydney-area athletes will be taking part in one of North America’s most prestigious triathlons. Chris Milburn, Sydney; Allan MacKenzie, Sydney River; John MacKinnon, Westmount; and Corey Deveaux, Sydney River, are set to put their athletic abilities and endurance to the test at the 2015 Lake Placid Ironman in upstate New York. Milburn is in the 45-49 age bracket, while Deveaux and MacKenzie are in the 30-34 division and MacKinnon is competing in the 50-54 bracket. The quartet has a fair amount of experience in similar events with Milburn having taken part in eight previous ironman competitions and Desveaux having completed five such events. The Lake Placid test will be MacKenzie’s third and MacKinnon’s second such venture. Last year, the Lake Placid Ironman was completed by almost 2,300 athletes. This year’s race takes place on Sunday. An ironman competition is comprised of a 3.86 km swim, a 180.25 km bicycle ride and a full running marathon of 42.2 km.
