It is with sad­ness we an­nounce the peace­ful pass­ing of our dear mother, grand­mother, sis­ter and best friend, Clara Mae Gale, 86, on Thurs­day, July 23, 2015, at the Seav­iew Manor, Glace Bay. Born in Whit­ney Pier, Clara was the daugh­ter of the late Hil­ton and Ju­lia (MacLeod) Phillips.

Fam­ily was ev­ery­thing to Clara. She was a won­der­ful grand­mother and lived life to the fullest. Clara was a ru­ral mail car­rier for 25 years in the South Bar area. Af­ter her re­tire­ment, Clara was able to spend more time volunteering at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal. Clara very much en­joyed skat­ing, walk­ing, bowl­ing, and was a horse shoe cham­pion. If Clara was not home, she could al­ways be found so­cial­iz­ing with her club mem­ber friends. Clara will be re­mem­bered by her fam­ily and friends for her out­go­ing na­ture and great sense of hu­mour. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Clara is sur­vived by her daugh­ters, Sharon (Char­lie) Walsh, San­dra Gale, Su­san (Bruce) Young and Shauna (Bob Howard) Win­ters; sis­ters, Thelma McKay, Myrna Thomas and brother, Elmer Phillips. She is also sur­vived by her eight lov­ing grand­chil­dren, David Petit­pas, Chris Fougere, Robert Petit­pas, Suzanne Lanceleve, Ben Young, John Glen Young, Scott Win­ters and Ju­lia Win­ters; eight adorable great-grand­chil­dren, Cameron and Cal­lie Fourg­ere, Jor­dyn and CJ Lanceleve, and Alex, Eve­lyn, Clark and Whylie Young; as well as many nieces, neph­ews, close friends, and a spe­cial friend, Don­ald Ross.

Be­sides her par­ents, Clara was pre­de­ceased by her hus­band, John and sib­lings, Hugh, Wil­bur, Melvin, Lloyd, Ella, Mil­dred, Eve­lyn and Olga.

Vis­i­ta­tion for the late Clara Mae Gale will be held on Tues­day, July 28, 2015 at the Pier Com­mu­nity Fu­neral Home, Whit­ney Pier, 1092 Vic­to­ria Rd. (en­trance on Church Street), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Fu­neral ser­vice to celebrate the life of Clara will be held on Wed­nes­day, July 29, 2015, at 11 a.m. in Pier Com­mu­nity Fu­neral Home, All Faith Chapel with Rev. Gary Bur­rill of­fi­ci­at­ing. Light re­fresh­ments will be served in the re­cep­tion area fol­low­ing the ser­vice. In­ter­ment will take place in For­est Haven Me­mo­rial Gar­dens, Syd­ney.

Do­na­tions in mem­ory of Clara may be made to Sal­va­tion Army, Heart and Stroke Foun­da­tion or char­ity of your choice.

A spe­cial thank you goes to all those who gave their love, sup­port and care to our mother, Clara, dur­ing her time of need.
