Con­sor­tium in­clud­ing SNC-Lavalin, Ae­con to build TO transit pro­ject

TORONTO - A con­sor­tium in­clud­ing SNC-Lavalin ( TSX:SNC) and Ae­con ( TSX:ARE) have closed a deal to build the Eglin­ton Crosstown light rail transit pro­ject in Toronto. Un­der the pro­ject agree­ment, Crosslinx Transit So­lu­tions, which also in­cludes ACS In­fra­struc­ture Canada Inc. and El­lisDon, will de­sign, build and main­tain the light rail transit line. The line will span 19 kilo­me­tres, 10 of which will go un­der­ground, and in­clude 25 sta­tions and stops. The On­tario gov­ern­ment an­nounced in 2010 it would spend $5.3 bil­lion to build the pro­ject. When the con­sor­tium was se­lected last month as the pre­ferred bid­der, it said it ex­pected to start con­struc­tion early next year. The Cana­dian Press
