DUNN, Lil­lian CAP­STICK, Frank GALE, Clara JONES, Herbert MA­CLEAN, Sarah NI­CHOL­SON, El­iz­a­beth PYE, Charles ROZELUK, Dorothy

El­iz­a­beth ‘Betty’ (MacNeil) Ni­chol­son passed peace­fully away at the age of 86 in Ni­a­gara Falls, Ont. on July 14, 2015.

Born in Syd­ney, N.S., on April 5, 1929, she was the eldest child of the late Stephen Lawrence and He­len (Ma­clean) MacNeil.

Betty grad­u­ated from Holy An­gels Con­vent High School in Syd­ney and at­tended Mount St. Bernard Col­lege and St. FX Univer­sity in Antigo­nish.

Beloved wife of the late Robert D. Ni­chol­son (1997) she is sur­vived by her six chil­dren, The Hon. Robert Ni­chol­son (Ar­lene), Ruth Anne McAu­ley (Frank), John Hayes Ni­chol­son (Anne), He­len Mur­phy (Dr.John), Bruce Ni­chol­son (Monique) and Jean Markar­ian ( Jim).

Betty was a lov­ing sis­ter to Fran­cis ‘Fa’ MacNeil (Dolly), Mary Shea (Dr. Frank), Al­lis­ter ‘Al’ MacNeil (Norma), Vin­cent ‘ Vinc’ MacNeil (Etta), Dou­glas ‘Dugga’ MacNeil (Florence), Dr. John Hayes MacNeil (Elaine) and El­win MacNeil ( Jane).

Betty is also sur­vived by 19 grand­chil­dren and two great­grand­chil­dren.

Although Betty moved to Ni­a­gara Falls in 1951, she main­tained close ties with her friends and fam­ily in Cape Bre­ton re­turn­ing each sum­mer to her sec­ond home in Big Pond.
