Annual Clan MacNeil Day on Friday

CHRISTMAS ISLAND — The 32th annual Clan MacNeil Day will be held in Christmas Island on Friday. The day begins at 2 p.m. with a tea and social at the Christmas Island fire hall. This will be followed by a concert from 2:30-4 p.m. in the hall. Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be a mass at the Cairn at Cooper’s Pond. In the event of inclement weather the mass will be held in St. Barra’s Church. There will be a hot buffett supper at the fire hall beginning at 6 p.m., at a cost of $14 for adults and $8 for children under 12. This will be followed by a square dance for those 19 and over featuring Howie MacDonald & guest from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.

Flag day set for Aug. 3

NORTH SYDNEY — North Sydney veterans will celebrate flag day on Aug. 3 with a flag-raising and march from the Ballast Grounds to the cenotaph, starting at 2 p.m. A reception with refreshmen­ts will follow at the legion.
