Glace Bay man sched­uled to en­ter pleas

SYD­NEY — A Glace Bay man charged with threat­en­ing and in­tim­i­dat­ing a wit­nesses is sched­uled to re­turn to pro­vin­cial court Aug. 5 to en­ter pleas. Mor­gan James MacNeil, 24, is charged with ut­ter­ing a threat, in­tim­i­da­tion and breach­ing a court or­der in con­nec­tion with a June 2 in­ci­dent in Syd­ney. MacNeil is al­leged to have made con­tact with the wit­ness who tes­ti­fied at his pre­lim­i­nary hear- ing on a charge of sec­ond-de­gree mur­der. MacNeil and Thomas Ted Bar­rett will stand trial next year in con­nec­tion with the 2012 mur­der of 21-year-old Laura Cather­ine Jessome of Bras d’Or. MacNeil made a brief court ap­pear­ance Mon­day and re­quested more time to se­cure the ser­vices of a lawyer. MacNeil is on re­mand for the mur­der charge and is serv­ing a fed­eral sen­tence on rob­bery of­fences.
