Mother, son make court appearances in murder case
SYDNEY — A Ben Eoin man charged with first-degree murder and his mother charged with being an accessory made brief court appearances Monday. Brandon James Berthiaume, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the July 25 shooting death of 24year-old Brandon Kelly in Reserve Mines. He is also facing a second charge of attempted murder by firing shots at a second man. Berthiaume’s mother, Jennifer Lynn Chisholm, 45, is charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder. According to the court information, Chisholm is charged with knowing that her son killed Kelly and helping her son by receiving a black leather biker’s vest from him. Chisholm is expected to enter a plea to the charges Aug. 24 while Berthiaume continues to be on remand and is scheduled to return to provincial court Aug. 10. Both have been ordered to have no contact with each other.
