Mother, son make court ap­pear­ances in mur­der case

SYD­NEY — A Ben Eoin man charged with first-de­gree mur­der and his mother charged with be­ing an ac­ces­sory made brief court ap­pear­ances Mon­day. Bran­don James Berthi­aume, 25, is charged with first-de­gree mur­der in con­nec­tion with the July 25 shoot­ing death of 24year-old Bran­don Kelly in Re­serve Mines. He is also fac­ing a sec­ond charge of at­tempted mur­der by fir­ing shots at a sec­ond man. Berthi­aume’s mother, Jen­nifer Lynn Chisholm, 45, is charged with be­ing an ac­ces­sory af­ter the fact to mur­der. Ac­cord­ing to the court in­for­ma­tion, Chisholm is charged with know­ing that her son killed Kelly and help­ing her son by re­ceiv­ing a black leather biker’s vest from him. Chisholm is ex­pected to en­ter a plea to the charges Aug. 24 while Berthi­aume con­tin­ues to be on re­mand and is sched­uled to re­turn to pro­vin­cial court Aug. 10. Both have been or­dered to have no con­tact with each other.
