Sydney man to continue psychiatric assessment
SYDNEY — A Sydney man facing a host of offences will continue to undergo a psychiatric assessment and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 26. Richard Lewis Copan, 27, of Deerfield Road is charged with assault, carrying a weapon dangerous to public peace (a knife), dangerous driving, uttering a threat, assault with a weapon (a Dodge Ram truck), possession of marijuana, and two counts of breaching court orders. The offences allegedly occurred earlier this year. The assessment will determine if Copan was criminally responsible for his actions. The assessment is being conducted on an out-patient basis at the East Coast Forensic Centre in Dartmouth. Copan has already begun the assessment and the court granted a three-week extension Wednesday to complete the process.
