Syd­ney man to con­tinue psy­chi­atric as­sess­ment

SYD­NEY — A Syd­ney man fac­ing a host of of­fences will con­tinue to un­dergo a psy­chi­atric as­sess­ment and is sched­uled to re­turn to court Aug. 26. Richard Lewis Copan, 27, of Deer­field Road is charged with as­sault, car­ry­ing a weapon dan­ger­ous to public peace (a knife), dan­ger­ous driv­ing, ut­ter­ing a threat, as­sault with a weapon (a Dodge Ram truck), pos­ses­sion of mar­i­juana, and two counts of breach­ing court or­ders. The of­fences al­legedly oc­curred ear­lier this year. The as­sess­ment will de­ter­mine if Copan was crim­i­nally re­spon­si­ble for his ac­tions. The as­sess­ment is be­ing con­ducted on an out-pa­tient ba­sis at the East Coast Foren­sic Cen­tre in Dart­mouth. Copan has al­ready be­gun the as­sess­ment and the court granted a three-week ex­ten­sion Wed­nes­day to com­plete the process.
