Sentence imposed on sexual assault
SYDNEY — A Sydney man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to a single count of sexual assault. Bernard Alexander MacLellan, 67, pleaded to assaulting a woman while she slept by penetrating her vagina with his finger. At the time of the offence on Jan. 28, MacLellan had been invited to stay the night in the apartment with the woman and her partner because he was homeless. Having spent 180 days on remand, for which he was credited nine months, MacLellan was sentenced to one day served by his presence in court. He must also complete a twoyear probation period, is banned from possessing firearms for the 10 years, must submit a DNA sample to the national registry and is to be a registered sex offender for the remainder of his life.
