Good time for league, players: Silver

Cape Breton Post - - SPORTS -

With a multibillion- dollar new broadcast rights deal set to kick in for the 2016-17 season, NBA commissioner Adam Silver says “it’s a very good time” for the league right now — and, he stressed, the players too. Silver said the new agreement with ESPN and TNT will have a “significant impact on the viability” of teams. That will likely see players seek much more in their next collective bargaining opportunity, possibly in 2017. Silver said on Thursday it was “premature” to talk about those negotiations, but characterized the relationship between the NBA and its players as one built on “trust” and “the best, as far as I know, in all of sports.”
