It is with deep sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Henry Meery, age 91, on Wed­nes­day, July 29, 2015, at the New Water­ford Hos­pi­tal.

Born in New Water­ford, Henry was the son of the late Ge­orge and He­lena (Stomal) Meery.

He was the last sur­viv­ing mem­ber of his im­me­di­ate fam­ily.

Henry was a proud coal miner; work­ing 40 years in No. 18, 12, 26 and Lin­gan col­lieries, re­tir­ing in 1981. He was a vet­eran of the Sec­ond World War serv­ing over­seas in Italy, France and Eng­land with the La­nark & Ren­frew Scot­tish Reg­i­ment of Canada.

Henry was an avid hunter and fish­er­man; he taught his boys to do the same. He was known for keep­ing a beau­ti­ful yard and flower gar­den. But mostly, he was a kind man who was loved by ev­ery­one he met. Henry was a man of great faith who loved to at­tend mass. He was also an avid Blue Jays fan.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 64 years, Florence (Cur­rie) Meery; one daugh­ter, El­iz­a­beth ‘Betty’ (Mrs. Al­bert Rush­ton), Amherst; two sons, Michael (He­lene), Ham­monds Plains, El­don (Michelle), New Water­ford; eight grand­chil­dren, Vanessa, Shawn, Ken­dra, Lynzee, Bon­nie, Rickey, Paula, Michael; great-grand­chil­dren, sev­eral nieces, neph­ews, two spe­cial nieces, He­len Rock­ett Landry and Freda Cameron.

Henry was pre­de­ceased by his daugh­ter, Brenda, two broth­ers, Al­fred, Ge­orge, and two sis­ters, Freda and Elsie.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place un­der the di­rec­tion of V.J. McGil­livray Fu­neral Home, 380 Smith St., New Water­ford. The fu­neral mass, of­fi­ci­ated by Rev. Ray Hunt­ley is Satur­day at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church fol­lowed by in­ter­ment in St. Michael’s Ceme­tery, River Ryan. The re­cep­tion will be held in the Army/Navy/Air Force Hall.
