• The cur­rent McCon­nell Li­brary opened in 1960 but no longer meets the needs of the com­mu­nity.

• New Syd­ney li­brary fea­si­bil­ity study was com­pleted by con­sul­tants Tri­fos De­sign, dmA Plan­ning Man­age­ment Ser­vices, and Bre­ton Char­tered Ac­coun­tants.

• Three op­tions have been pre­sented, and all pro­pos­als are for a 40,000 square foot site. The cap­i­tal cost would range from a low of about $18 mil­lion if the for­mer Tar­get re­tail space was retrofitted, to $28 mil­lion for the two new build con­cepts, with the first op­tion lo­cated on CBRM-owned prop­erty across from the Joan Har­riss Cruise Pavil­ion and the sec­ond at the site of the fire sta­tion on the Es­planade.
