ER closure announced
NEW WATERFORD — The emergency department at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital will be closed Thursday and reopen Friday at 7 a.m. Officials with the Nova Scotia Health Authority say this closure is necessary because of the unavailability of physicians to cover the shift. Residents are also asked to note that the emergency department is never open in the evenings, overnight or on Sundays and Mondays. New Waterford area residents needing emergency service should call 911, or go to the emergency department at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney. Residents with a a non-urgent health matter can call Health Link 811 to talk to a registered nurse.
