Police iden­tify man found dead on Dart­mouth side­walk

Police have ruled young man’s death a homi­cide, ask­ing pub­lic for in­for­ma­tion

Hal­i­fax police foren­sic iden­ti­fi­ca­tion of­fi­cers search for ev­i­dence at the scene of a shoot­ing near Mount Ed­ward Road and Spring Av­enue in Dart­mouth early Tues­day morn­ing.

A man who was found shot dead on a Dart­mouth side­walk Tues­day morn­ing has been iden­ti­fied.

On Tues­day at about 5:20 a.m. police re­sponded to a re­port of shots fired around Mount Ed­ward Road and Spring Av­enue. When of­fi­cers ar­rived, they found the body ly­ing on the side­walk.

Hal­i­fax Re­gional Police Const. Dianne Wood­worth couldn’t say ex­actly how many times the vic­tim was shot, but did say on Tues­day wit­nesses heard mul­ti­ple gun­shots.

Based on an au­topsy con­ducted on Tues­day, the med­i­cal ex­am­iner has ruled the death a homi­cide. The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as Joseph Dou­glas Cameron, 20, of Dart­mouth.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion, led by the Homi­cide Unit of the In­te­grated Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion Divi­sion, is on­go­ing. Any­one who has any in­for­ma­tion about this in­ci­dent is asked to con­tact police by call­ing 902-490-5020.
