Heat­ing as­sis­tance pro­gram in place

SYD­NEY — The prov­ince will con­trib­ute $800,000 to the Good Neigh­bour En­ergy Fund that pro­vides emer­gency home heat­ing help during the win­ter.

The Sal­va­tion Army is also a pro­gram part­ner, along with Nova Sco­tia Power which will pro­vide a fur­ther $150,000 to the pro­gram that helped 1,604 peo­ple heat their homes last year.

To re­ceive sup­port, an ap­pli­cant must not have re­ceived as­sis­tance from the pro­gram for two years and must fall be­low cer­tain in­come lev­els.

The pro­gram runs un­til April 30.
