Trial date assigned on weapon offences
SYDNEY — A Point Aconi man has re-elected to be tried in provincial court on a host of offences.
John William MacNeil, 48, is to stand trial on charges of careless use of a firearm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a weapon, discharging a firearm with intent, assault with a weapon, uttering a threat and mischief.
The offences are alleged to have occurred in August 2014, when a 24-year-old neighbour of MacNeil’s was shot in the leg.
MacNeil had previously elected to be tried in Supreme Court but re-elected to provincial court and was assigned a trial date.
The trial is now scheduled to begin June 5.
