Trial date as­signed on weapon of­fences

SYD­NEY — A Point Aconi man has re-elected to be tried in provin­cial court on a host of of­fences.

John Wil­liam MacNeil, 48, is to stand trial on charges of care­less use of a firearm, point­ing a firearm, pos­ses­sion of a weapon for a danger­ous pur­pose, unau­tho­rized pos­ses­sion of a weapon, dis­charg­ing a firearm with in­tent, as­sault with a weapon, ut­ter­ing a threat and mis­chief.

The of­fences are al­leged to have oc­curred in Au­gust 2014, when a 24-year-old neigh­bour of MacNeil’s was shot in the leg.

MacNeil had pre­vi­ously elected to be tried in Supreme Court but re-elected to provin­cial court and was as­signed a trial date.

The trial is now sched­uled to be­gin June 5.
